Registration open for Summer 2026 healthcare conferences and workshops


The University of Southern Indiana Center for Health Professions Lifelong Learning will offer the following conferences and workshops this summer designed to provide essential continuing education and professional development opportunities for health professionals across disciplines.

Respiratory Conference – Wednesday and Thursday, June 17-18

This conference is designed to address critical topics that influence patient care and clinical decision-making such as neo advanced vent modes, endobronchial valve therapy, neo COPD, pulmonary rehab, brain death criteria and ethical considerations.

This continuing education event will equip respiratory therapists, nurses and other healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge and skills to navigate the evolving respiratory care landscape and enhance interdisciplinary collaboration. Both days will feature hands-on learning at USI’s state-of-the-art Clinical Simulation Center.

This program has been approved for 14.75 contact hours Continuing Respiratory Care Education (CRCE) credit by the American Association for Respiratory Care.

MAIA – Thursday and Friday, August 6-7

USI is hosting  the 19th annual Mid-America Institute on Aging and Wellness (MAIA), a two-day gerontology conference for healthcare and social service professionals, healthcare administrators, clinicians, older adults or retirees, family members providing care for a loved one, students and anyone who wants to learn tips for leading a healthier life. Each year, national and local speakers provide practical tools and groundbreaking information related to successful aging and wellness.

For those unable to be at the conference in person, the MAIA registration form will include an option to virtually attend the three keynote presentations.

This year’s Bronstein Keynote is Anne Basting, PhD, a writer, artist and advocate for the power of creativity to transform lives. Emerita Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, she is Founder of TimeSlips.org, which trains caregivers to unlock the meaning and joy in elder care. Basting is author of numerous articles and four books, including Creative Care: A Revolutionary Approach to Elder and Dementia Care.

The 2026 MAIA lineup also includes James Pridgen, who will speak on the use of artificial intelligence to prevent elder abuse, and Sean Terwilliger, an active advocate and speaker for the Alzheimer’s Association, who will share his experiences living with Alzheimer’s.

Designed for nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.

Wednesday, June 3 – Autoimmune Basics 
When should a patient be referred to a rheumatologist? Presented by Stefanie Remson, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, this presentation will cover commonly seen autoimmune diagnoses in the primary care setting and appropriate management of clinical symptoms.

Wednesday, June 24 – Vaccines 
Ethan Griffiths, Clinical Staff Pharmacist with Deaconess Health System, will discuss common concerns and misinformation contributing to vaccine hesitancy. Learn communication strategies and information to build trust and improve patient-provider relationships that will help improve vaccination rates.

Friday, June 26 – Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis) 
Taylor Kissel. Pharm-D, MBA, will review the essentials of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, including current treatments for providers, patients and families.

Tuesday, June 30 – Postnatal PTSD 
Kristen Tobin, DNP, RN, USI Assistant Professor of Nursing, will identify risk factors, discuss the importance of routine screening and help participants apply trauma-informed care principles.

Wednesday, July 1 – Fit to Fight, Ready to Care 
Led by Erin Parchman, MSRT, RRT, CPFT, AE-C, a U.S. Air Force veteran with extensive experience in high-stakes Trauma I and ICU environments. Being ready to care means having the reserves—mentally,emotionally and physically—to remain present with patients, make sound decisions under stress and sustain compassion over the long term. This session is designed for healthcare professionals working in high-stress environments.

Wednesday, July 8 – Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): The Basics 
Stefanie Remson, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, will review the definition and pathophysiology of  RA, describe treatments and long-term complications and discuss resources for patients and families.

Wednesday, July 29 – Systemic Lupus Erythematosus 
Stefanie Remson, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, will provide an overview and important updates for anyone working with or experiencing the impact of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Friday, July 31 – Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis 
Taylor Kissel, Pharm-D, MBA, will cover the complicated and evolving information on this disease, also known as MASH.

Wednesday, August 5 – Regulation, Resilience and Presence: Why Discussing Breathing Matters in Healthcare Education 
We often underestimate the value of taking a full breath of air. Erin Parchman, MSRT, RRT, CPFT, AE-C, will explain that regulation is not self-care but a core professional competency.
