Activities and Traditions

Campus Traditions

At USI, students can count on exciting events happening outside of their classes almost every single week. Activities and Traditions are all about offering ways for students to take a break from the stress of studying, try new things, meet new friends and of course making long lasting memories. There are plenty of ways to plug into what's happening on campus whether it is an event hosted by the Activities Programming Board, or a campus tradition like Homecoming or SpringFest.

Class Photos

Every fall during Welcome Week, first-year students at come together for a powerful visual tradition: the Class Photo. On the Quad, hundreds of new Screaming Eagles line up to form the numbers of their graduation year—like a giant “29” for the Class of 2029. Captured from above, the photo symbolizes the start of their shared journey and becomes a lasting memory of their first days on campus.

Homecoming

Homecoming at USI has been around almost as long as the University has, featuring an annual crowning of Homecoming King and Queen, more recently a dance, and of course spirit filled basketball games supporting USI Athletics.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Luncheon

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Celebration is one of USI’s signature events, featuring an inspiring keynote speaker and draws a large audience from campus and the surrounding community. This luncheon honors Dr. King’s legacy and celebrates his enduring impact on society. The event is sponsored by the Student Life Office and supported by community partners and sponsors.

Greek Week

Greek Week is designed to bring the entire Fraternity/Sorority Life community together to celebrate their values, accomplishments over the past year, display Greek unity and have fun. It’s a celebration of leadership, service, and connection, where students showcase the best of Greek Life through friendly competitions, creative performances, and philanthropy projects that make a real impact.
