Campus Traditions

At the University of Southern Indiana, our traditions are the heartbeat of student life at USI. They connect generations of Screaming Eagles, celebrate our shared and individual identities, and create unforgettable campus memories. From the high-energy excitement of Homecoming and SpringFest, these experiences reflect the dynamic spirit of our university.

Welcome Week

Welcome Week kicks off the academic year with a series of engaging events designed to help new and returning students feel at home. From resource fairs to social mixers, this tradition sets the tone for a successful and connected campus experience.

Class Photos

Every fall during Welcome Week, first-year students at come together for a powerful visual tradition: the Class Photo. On the Quad, hundreds of new Screaming Eagles line up to form the numbers of their graduation year—like a giant “29” for the Class of 2029. Captured from above, the photo symbolizes the start of their shared journey and becomes a lasting memory of their first days on campus.

Homecoming

Homecoming is a time-honored tradition at the University of Southern Indiana, coordinated by the Student Life Office. Each year, students, alumni, and the campus community come together for a week of spirited events and activities leading up to the Homecoming Basketball games in Liberty Arena—Home of the Screaming Eagles!

SpringFest at USI

SpringFest is USI’s annual spring celebration marking the close of another successful academic year. Coordinated by the Student Life Office, this week-long event features a variety of high-energy activities like silent discos, concerts, carnivals, field days, and more. It’s a time for students to unwind, connect, and celebrate their accomplishments before heading into finals and summer break.

Greek Week

Greek Week is one of the most exciting traditions on campus, bringing together fraternities and sororities for a week of spirited events and community engagement. It’s a celebration of leadership, service, and connection, where students showcase the best of Greek Life through friendly competitions, creative performances, and philanthropy projects that make a real impact.
