Back-to-school reminders: University Health Center
August 25, 2023
During the first days of the 2023 Fall Semester, USI Today will share helpful reminders of University policies and benefits for employees! Please take the time to re-familiarize yourself with these policies as the academic year is underway.
University Health Center still accessible in Health and Professions Center
As students and employees gear up for the start of the Fall Semester, there are a few changes they will see across campus. Work continues in several areas and buildings, including the Health Professions Center. Though crews are continuing progress on renovations, University Health Center remains open on the lower level of the building.
USI students and employees can continue to utilize the clinic for health needs during this time, according to Haley Wade, UHC Practice Manager. Patients are asked to simply enter through the clinic entrance on the lower level of the Health Professions Center. Currently, the UHC is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“We are like an urgent care clinic, but we also serve as primary care for some people as well,” says Wade. “We treat pretty much anything from colds to basic office visits.”
Services offered for employees include preventative care, wellness physicals and acute care. For the student population, UHC offers the same primary care needs as any other clinic, including immunizations, and women's and men's healthcare, including STI testing and paps. Of note: Deaconess locations, including the UHC, will not have the new COVID-19 vaccine dose that is releasing in September.
The UHC can also do lab testing and prescribe medications as needed. Staff have a working relationship with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) in providing mental health care to students as well. And there’s a real convenience to having such a medical facility on campus; not only can patients obtain healthcare close by, but it’s easy to schedule an appointment and get care quickly rather than having to wait for an open spot. USI students and employees can easily schedule an appointment time through the UHC’s online portal, as well as choose which provider they prefer.
“Also, we are a super affordable option for students for all the services we offer,” adds Wade.
