The University of Southern Indiana selects honorary degree recipients through a nomination and review process. Members of the university community, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and trustees, are invited to submit nominations for individuals who have made significant contributions to their field or society as a whole. The nominations are then reviewed by a committee of faculty, staff, and trustees who make recommendations to the university president. The Board of Trustees reviews the list of candidates from the president and makes a final determination of honorary degree recipients.
