Designed by internationally acclaimed architect Richard Meier, the Atheneum has received numerous design awards, including the Progressive Architecture Award for 1979, the American Institute of Architects Award in 1982, and the Twenty-five Year Award in 2008. The stunning building, which serves as the Visitors Center for New Harmony, houses exhibits on the communal history of New Harmony, a large theater where an orientation film on the town is shown, and the Museum Shop. Tours of the Atheneum which includes watching the film and several exhibits are available to the public through a donation.
The Atheneum will be closed starting December 18 and reopen March 1, 2023 and hours of operation will be 9:30am-5:00pm Tuesday-Sunday, excluding Thanksgiving and Easter. New Harmony is located in the Central time zone.
Please note, the Atheneum will be closing at 3:30pm on Friday, March 19 due to a special event. The daily 1:00 tour will still run as scheduled.
