Photographs from the Robert Rosenthal Collection
University of Southern Indiana Archives and Special Collections

Dr. Robert James Rosenthal (1938-2021) was professor emeritus of philosophy at Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana. He served as a Hanover faculty member for 47 years, starting his tenure there in 1967 and retiring in 2014. His specializations included philosophy of art, philosophy of religion, environmental philosophy and intentional communities.

Dr. Rosenthal taught a spring term course, "Utopias and Intentional Communities," that was offered annually to Hanover College students from 1976 to 2013. Besides studying monasteries, communes and Amish societies, students also learned about the lives of Harlan and Anna Hubbard, and some had the chance to visit Payne Hollow.

This curated selection of photographs from the Robert Rosenthal Collection show interactions between Hanover College students with Harlan and Anna Hubbard as well as views of Payne Hollow and Harlan Hubbard's artwork.
