Scholarships are awarded based upon application for admission. Scholarship criteria are subject to change. Scholarships are evaluated each June, at which time criteria and values are confirmed for students who will begin applying in August.

David L. Rice Merit Scholarship

This is the primary scholarship offered by the University of Southern Indiana to all eligible applicants residing in Indiana or qualifying counties in Kentucky and Illinois based on academic performance. Qualified applicants automatically receive the Rice Scholarship based upon their admission to USI.

Award amounts: $1,000 - $4,000

Foundation Awards

Admitted students can take advantage of AwardSpring, a unified scholarship application that faculty and staff utilize to award Foundation scholarships. This one application serves as the application to all Foundation scholarships for which a student is eligible. Students can click on the AwardSpring icon through MyUSI and begin completing a single application. The software will automatically match potential recipients to scholarships based on the information provided on the application. 

Multicultural Leadership Scholarship

The Harolyn Torain Multicultural Leadership Scholarship is a competitive award that provides an annual scholarship of $5,000. Recipients also participate in an Inclusive Excellence Program that incorporates leadership, community service and cultural experiences throughout the academic year. Students who have a 3.0/4.0 cumulative high school GPA and have demonstrated leadership in multicultural school or community activities or organizations are eligible to apply.

Presidential Scholarship

Eligibility
The Presidential Scholarship is a competitive award for Indiana residents and provides recipients with an award covering full tuition and housing costs (fall and spring semesters), along with a yearly stipend for books and meals. High school seniors who meet the following criteria is eligible to apply for a Presidential Scholarship:

  • Have a high school GPA of 4.0 at the time of application for admission to USI. 
  • A minimum composite ACT score of 27, an SAT score of 1280.

Selection Process
Ten Presidential Scholars will be chosen to begin classes in the coming fall semester. Selection will be based on the high school record, SAT or ACT scores, letter of recommendation and a personal interview. Qualified candidates will be screened initially by a review committee. Finalists then will be invited for an interview and information day held in February.

Baccalaureate/Doctor of Medicine Scholarship (B/MD)

The B/MD Scholarship is a competitive award for Indiana residents who plan to pursue medical school. Through an interview process, USI awards full tuition scholarships for four years of undergraduate study as well as provisional acceptance into the Indiana University School of Medicine. To apply for the scholarship, students must have a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative high school GPA and a combined composite SAT score of a 1280 (Evidence-Based Reading/Writing + Math) or an ACT composite score of 27. The B/MD application deadline is November 17, 2023.

USI Art Scholarships

The USI Art Department awards four-year renewable scholarships in amounts ranging from $500-$2,500 to incoming students majoring in art or art education to be used towards tuition. Deadline to apply is TBD.
