Engage with history through tours, programs and experiences for everyone.

Events & Programs

New Harmony's history comes alive through the programs and events we offer year-round. Whether you're visiting for the first time, living in town or part of the USI community, there are many ways to explore this unique place and the ideas that shaped it.

What We Offer

Exhibitions

Our changing exhibitions showcase objects, documents and images from Historic New Harmony's collections, exploring themes from the utopian communities to the evolution of the town. We also host traveling exhibitions from other institutions that connect to New Harmony's history. These displays offer visitors new ways to engage with material culture and discover stories that don't always make it into the standard tour.

Festivals

Historic New Harmony's festivals celebrate the town's history and community spirit through music, art, food and family-friendly activities. These annual events bring together residents and visitors for memorable experiences that honor the past while creating new traditions.

Film Screenings

Our film programs feature documentaries and feature films that explore utopian communities, social reform movements, and themes connected to New Harmony's history. Join us for screenings followed by discussions that connect what's on screen to the stories of the people who experimented here.

Gatherings

From informal social events to community conversations, our gatherings create space for people to connect over shared interests in history, preservation and community life. These programs foster the kind of exchange and collaboration that has always been part of New Harmony's identity.

Guided Tours

Experience New Harmony's historic sites with knowledgeable guides who bring the stories of the Harmonists, Owenites, and later residents to life. Tours explore the buildings where these communities lived and worked, and explain how their social experiments influenced American culture.

Lectures & Talks

We host scholars, authors, historians and subject experts who explore topics ranging from utopian communities to 19-th century science, education reform and social movements. These programs offer opportunities to engage with ideas that shaped New Harmony and their relevance today.

Special Events

Throughout the year, we offer unique programs that don't fit into other categories, whether it's a behind-the-scenes collection tour, a seasonal celebration or a special collaboration with community partners. Check back regularly to see what's coming up.

Special Travel Opportunities

Join us for educational trips that trace New Harmony's story beyond the Wabash. Travel with fellow enthusiasts and expert guides to explore the places where our utopian communities' visions began.

Workshops

Our hands-on workshops invite participants to engage directly with historical practices, preservation techniques and creative processes inspired by New Harmony's communities. From archival methods to historic gardening, these programs offer practical skills and deeper understanding.

Host an Event

Historic New Harmony's unique spaces are available for educational programs, community gatherings and special events that align with our mission. Whether you're planning a scholarly conference, community meeting or cultural program, we'd love to discuss how we can support your vision.
