2023-2024 Important Dates

For specific hours for the HRL office, Community Center and C-Store during holidays, days with no classes and other University closings, please visit Housing and Residence Life. The website is updated regularly to reflect special hours.

2023

  • May 1 - Deadline to cancel 2023-2024 housing contract without penalty
  • May 22 - Deadline for new students to apply for 2023-2024 housing in order to participate in June room selection
  • May 29 - Memorial Day - USI closed, no classes
  • June 19 - Juneteenth - USI closed, no classes
  • June 5-16 - Select your bed space during your assigned appointment time online. Information about room selection will be sent to student USI email accounts.
  • July 4 - Fourth of July - USI closed, no classes
  • July 15 - Room notification - assignments and roommate information available on the Housing portal (6 p.m. CST)
  • July 21 - Sign up form to reserve move in date and time available on the Housing portal
  • August 12-13 - Early move in for approved students. Early move in is for students who need to move in early for a University-sponsored activity or program. Students will sign up online for a move in day and time.
  • August 16 - Housing check in for TLC students, new incoming freshmen and new transfer students. Students will sign up online for a move in day and time based on their classification.
  • August 17 - Housing check in for new incoming freshmen and new transfer students. Students will sign up online for a move in day and time based on their classification.
  • August 18-20 - Housing check in for returning students and those unable to move in August 16-17. Students will sign up online for a move in day and time based on their classification.
  • August 21 - First day of fall semester
  • September 4 - Labor Day - USI closed, No classes
  • September 12 - Assessment Day - No classes
  • October 9-10 - Fall Break - No classes; students do not have to leave housing during fall break
  • November 22-26 - Thanksgiving Break - USI closed, no classes; students do not have to leave housing during this break
  • December 1 - Housing application and contract for 2024-2025 will be available on the Housing portal
  • December 8 - Last day to sign up to stay during winter break; residents with permanent residences in Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, Gibson, Henderson (KY), White (IL), or Gallatin (IL) counties are not eligible to stay after the December 15 deadline
  • December 15 - University housing closes to residents for winter break; residents must leave by 6 p.m. unless approved to stay late or stay over break
  • December 22-January 1 - Winter Break - USI closed including the HRL office, Community Center and C-Store

2024

  • January 5 - Students can return to housing on or after this date
  • January 8 - Spring semester begins
  • January 15 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - No classes
  • February 12 - Deadline at 4:30 p.m. for current housing residents to contract to participate in room selection (contracts after this deadline will participate in May room selection)
  • February 16 - 8 a.m. deadline for current housing residents' roommate groups to be completed and invitations accepted
  • February 20 - Email sent with room selection appointment timeslot
  • February 22-23 - Current housing residents who want to retain same space, if available (no roommate groups allowed)
  • February 26-27 - Current housing resident room selection
  • March 4-8 - Spring Break - Students do not have to leave housing during spring break
  • March 26 - Assessment Day - No classes
  • March 29 - University Holiday - USI closed, no classes
  • March 30 - HRL, Community Center and C-Store closed
  • April 1 - Housing contract for summer available on the Housing portal
  • May 3 - Last day of spring 2024 semester
  • May 3 - University housing closes to residents; residents must move out by 6 p.m. unless approved to stay late or staying for summer
  • May 27 - Memorial Day - USI closed, no classes
  • June 1 - Deadline to cancel 2024-2025 housing contract without penalty
  • June 19 - Juneteenth - USI closed, no classes
  • July 4 - Fourth of July - USI closed, no classes
