6 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025
Atheneum Visitors Center
Join us at the Atheneum on July 12 to meet the author of a new biography of artist, writer, and early sustainability pioneer Harlan Hubbard.
Perhaps you’ve walked through the traveling exhibition Driftwood: The Life of Harlan Hubbard or attended the screening of the documentary Wonder: The Lives of Anna and Harlan Hubbard at the Atheneum. Maybe you've read Harlan Hubbard’s Shantyboat or the biographies on the Hubbards by Wendell Berry and Jessica K. Whitehead. Do you have any questions that were left unanswered? Want to know more about their extraordinary story? Feel the urge to talk with other people about simple living? Get those thoughts ready – Historic New Harmony is hosting a Book Talk and Signing event featuring Jessica K. Whitehead, author of Driftwood: The Life of Harlan Hubbard, contributor to The Watercolors of Harlan Hubbard and expert on Harlan Hubbard’s life and art!
Join us at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 at the Atheneum Visitors Center for an author talk, book signing and a meet & greet with public historian Jessica K. Whitehead. She will be discussing Harlan and Anna Hubbard’s lives and answering questions from the audience. Afterward, New Harmony musicians Donna and Wes Griffin will be performing acoustic music on the first floor of the Atheneum to accompany her book signing. Copies of the books Driftwood: The Life of Harlan Hubbard and The Watercolors of Harlan Hubbard are available for purchase in our Museum Shop.
The event will close out the run of the Driftwood exhibition in New Harmony. The exhibition will next travel to the Lucille Caudill Fine Arts & Design Library at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, in late July. It will also be displayed in 2025 at the Janice Mason Art Museum in Cadiz, Kentucky.
