MOVE IN SIGNUP
All students will sign up online for a timeslot for move in. This timeslot is for checking in, unloading vehicle(s) and moving them to designated parking lots. After a vehicle is unloaded and moved then students and their guests can move items to rooms. The move in signup form will be available on the Housing Portal on Friday, July 21.
MOVE IN CARTS AND VOLUNTEERS
There will be carts available for students to use at the residence halls (August 16-17) to move items into the buildings. Also, there will be HRL staff and Welcome Week Leaders assisting students moving into the residence halls on August 16-17. There will not be carts or volunteers available for apartment move in.
Each residence hall has an elevator. To minimize a back up of people and carts in the lobby, students and guests should use the stairs. Elevators will be reserved for ADA accommodations and for moving large, heavy items.
If a student has a disability or condition that requires accommodations at move in, please email Living.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON MOVE IN DAY
Drive Through Check In (Early Arrival/TLC/New Student/Returning Student)
When you arrive to campus please take the USI exit from Highway 62 onto University Boulevard. Follow the signs to parking lot B. On August 16-17, traffic control staff will direct extra vehicles on where to wait while student vehicles continue on in the line to the Check In tent. Student vehicles will stop at the Welcome Week tent (August 16-17) first and then the Housing Check In tent. After checking in, you can go move into your new home!
Note: There will not be staff directing traffic on August 12-13 and August 18-20. Follow signs on campus to the Check In tent.
Students should have their USI student ID or QR code (sent via email) ready when pulling up to the check in tent.
Students should not show up early for their assigned move in time. The move in timeslot is for when students are at the check in tent. After the student has checked in at the tent, they should go to their residence hall or apartment building to unload and park vehicles. Refer to the maps below for more details.
Inclement Weather
If there would be bad weather on campus (i.e., thunderstorm/tornado warning, lightning, etc.), then the check in process will be moved from the tent. Information about any changes will be communicated on social media for Housing and Residence Life. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
GUESTS DURING MOVE IN
Parents, families, and friends are welcome to help their student move in. To maintain safety of all students, guests, faculty, and staff, we strongly discourage any individuals from coming to campus who feel ill or have a fever.
CHECK IN TENT
All students (Early Arrival/TLC/New Student/Returning Student) will check in at the Housing Check In tent located in the back of parking lot B. Residents will receive their room key, parking decal (for those who have preregistered their vehicle) and other relevant information.
PACKING LIST
Check out our packing list and tips to help plan for move in and living on campus.
MAIL AND PACKAGES
HRL will begin accepting mail and packages for fall residents on Wednesday, August 16. If you are not a summer housing resident, please do not have anything sent to campus prior to August 16. Please visit Mail and Packages for more information on how items should be addressed and where to pick up mail and packages.
MEAL PLANS
Meal plans begin Saturday, August 19 with brunch. For more information about meal plans visit USI Dining. There will be food provided at many of the events and activities throughout Welcome Week.
WELCOME WEEK TENT (AUGUST 16-17)

Students will receive a welcome packet that includes the Welcome Week schedule, information from departments on tasks to complete before classes start, checklist of what and how to take care of business on campus, and a map on where to find things.
PARKING PERMITS
Housing residents must register their vehicle online. The vehicle registration form is available online. Students should complete the vehicle registration by Monday, August 7 to ensure the parking packet will be at the Check In tent. Vehicle registrations completed after August 7 will be processed as they are received and delivered to the Check In tent on Move In days. Beginning Monday, August 21, parking permits should be picked up in the Parking office located in the Public Safety building.
The parking packet will include the parking permit decal, decal placement instructions and other important information. Visit Parking Enforcement for more information about parking on campus.
