Alumni Spotlight: Ashley Elpers
The USI Alumni Spotlight series celebrates graduates of the University of Southern Indiana who exemplify leadership, perseverance, and the lifelong value of learning. Each feature highlights an alum’s unique journey, from their time as a student to their personal and professional achievements beyond the classroom. Through their stories, we recognize the lasting impact of a USI education and the powerful connections that continue to unite our Screaming Eagles community across generations and industries.
→ A Journey Rooted in Dedication and Growth
A proud USI Volleyball alumna, she returned to the University of Southern Indiana to pursue her Master of Health Administration, graduating in 2021. Working full-time in the healthcare system and raising three children, she was determined to advance her education and career. Having already earned her undergraduate degree from USI and served with the Alumni Association, she knew it was the perfect place to continue her academic journey.
Completing her degree in just one year while managing so many responsibilities remains one of her proudest achievements. The program’s flexibility, supportive professors, and collaborative group work made the experience both challenging and rewarding.
→ Lessons Beyond the Classroom
While her career has since transitioned from healthcare to real estate, she credits her graduate studies with shaping how she thinks and approaches challenges. The program taught her to view situations from a macro perspective, strengthening her problem-solving and leadership abilities. “The higher level of education made me think through bigger-picture problems,” she said. “It kept my mind agile and challenged it in new ways.”
She also highlights the discipline and focus required to complete a graduate program. As a former hiring manager, she valued that same determination in others — the ability to start and complete something meaningful.

→ Staying Connected and Giving Back
Her connection to USI continues to run deep. As a past president of the USI Alumni Association, she remains active in giving back to the university — organizing events, supporting fellow alumni, and helping spread the word about USI. She also keeps close ties with her former volleyball teammates, often traveling and reconnecting with them.
Her advice to current graduate students is simple but powerful: “Take advantage of every opportunity and resource, even if it doesn’t seem directly related to your field. People love to share what they’re passionate about — and that’s how you grow.”
Today, she continues to focus on her real estate career and her family, while proudly representing the values and spirit of the USI community.
