Alumni Spotlight: Jeff Aucoin
The USI Alumni Spotlight series celebrates graduates of the University of Southern Indiana who exemplify leadership, perseverance, and the lifelong value of learning. Each feature highlights an alum’s unique journey, from their time as a student to their personal and professional achievements beyond the classroom. Through their stories, we recognize the lasting impact of a USI education and the powerful connections that continue to unite our Screaming Eagles community across generations and industries.
→ Advancing His Career Through Education
As the Head Volleyball Coach at the University of Southern Indiana, he knows the value of discipline, strategy, and leadership both on and off the court. In May 2022, he earned his Master of Business Administration, a program he chose for its national recognition, affordability, and online flexibility. “The Online MBA program was a perfect fit for me at that point in my career,” he shared. “It allowed me to continue working while advancing my education.”
Now in his third year leading the USI Volleyball program, he credits his MBA for equipping him with the business insight needed to manage the many dimensions of coaching — from recruitment and marketing to program development and communication.

→ Lessons in Leadership and Balance
Much of his success stems from the time management and adaptability skills he developed during graduate school. Balancing a full-time coaching position, graduate coursework, and family life demanded focus and intentionality. “Graduate school forced me to manage my time even more,” he reflected. “There were many nights spent doing work after everyone else had gone to bed.”
His MBA experience also helped him connect business concepts to collegiate athletics. Understanding marketing, sales, and organizational strategy has shaped how he runs his program and develops his student-athletes both on and off the court.
→ Staying Connected and Giving Back
As both a USI alumnus and staff member, he remains deeply connected to the university community. An active member of the USI Alumni Association, he participates in events whenever possible and values the opportunity to stay engaged with students and peers. “Serving as a staff member on campus makes it easier to stay connected to our great university,” he said.
He hopes to give back by mentoring students in the MBA and Kinesiology programs who are interested in coaching or athletic administration. His advice to current graduate students is simple but meaningful: “Be curious and always pursue your passion, even if your situation seems overwhelming and impossible.” Looking ahead, he says his goal is to continue building the volleyball program and remain part of the USI family for many years to come.
