BG Projects at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art presents "Locality: An Exhibit about Culture and Place in Evansville and New Harmony." This is a group exhibit of artists Michael Patrick Bailey, Stanley Campbell, Emily Gartner, Jonathan Hamilton, Amy Musia, and Tory Schendel-Vyvoda. It will also feature the work of local artist Jerry Baum courtesy USI Archives and Special Collections. The show touches on themes of urban decay, renewal, and historic/cultural preservation in Evansville and New Harmony. These themes link the artworks' shared focus on materiality, and how the built environment connects people across time and space.
The exhibit will be on view from February 28th – April 11th, 2026. A 2-in-1 opening reception for it alongside the main gallery's “Exhibit Columbus: 10 Years of the J. Irwin and Xenia S. Miller Price” will be held on Saturday, February 28th, 3–5 pm CT.
Additionally, An Art, Preservation, and Placemaking talk tied to themes of the exhibit will occur on Thursday, March 12th from 10-11am at Black Lodge Coffee Roasters, 610 Church Street, New Harmony, IN 47631. Join NHGCA Gallery staff, USI Archivist Jennifer Greene and artist Emily Gartner in a conversation on the 'Locality' art exhibit at BG Projects/NHGCA.
Finally, an Artist Talk with Tory Schendel-Vyvoda will occur on Saturday, March 21st from 3-4pm in the BG Projects Space. Come and learn from local artist and arts leader, Tory Schendel-Vyvoda, about her work on view in 'Locality' and the intersection of contemporary art and placemaking.
The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is open regular hours Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 5pm CT.
New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is dedicated to enhancing the experiences of regional artists and USI students with with the exhibition space in the back gallery. Alongside gallery-curated exhibits, USI students are invited to submit exhibition proposals to BG Projects at NHGCA. Installation, media art, proposals that involve artists outside USI, and more are all encouraged. Through exhibition and curatorial strategies, new possibilities for collaboration and art practice can be envisioned with special mind to students and emergent artists.
