How it Works

The Biometrix Discovery Lab utilizes biometric sensors to conduct research on decision making in the context of computer-based information presentation and tasks by measuring human attention, arousal, cognition and emotion. By tracking eye movement, skin reactions, heartbeat and facial expression, researchers can measure emotional responses to images or video and see how subjects interact with both digital media in a lab setting and their everyday surroundings with eye tracking glasses.

What technology is used?

Facial Expression Analysis

Captures emotional expressions and automated facial coding from any video. Tests the impact of any content, product or service that is supposed to elicit emotional arousal and facial responses.

Screen-based Eye Tracking

Uses software and hardware to track the movement of the eyes as they view a stimulus (or stimuli) on a screen. It allows for the recording and analysis of visual attention in response to multimedia. It’s possible to perform screen-based eye tracking on images, videos, websites, games, software interfaces, 3D environments and mobile phones to provide deeper insights into visual attention.

Eye Tracking Glasses

Allows researchers to understand how respondents view and interact in the real, dynamic world. Take your studies into the wild so that measuring visual attention is no longer restricted to lab settings.

Electrodermal Activity

Measures emotional arousal through skin conductivity. If something is scary, threatening, joyful, or otherwise emotionally relevant, then the subsequent change in emotional response that we experience also increases eccrine sweat gland activity.
