Digital Accessibility Training and Resources

Digital accessibility training helps campus web editors and content creators understand why accessibility matters, how to create more accessible digital content at USI and how to meet the expectations outlined in the Digital Accessibility Web Content Policy. These resources support our shared responsibility to ensure online information and services are usable by all audiences.

NOTE: The new ADA Title II ruling mandates that public universities ensure their digital content and services are accessible to individuals with disabilities by April 24, 2026. This includes websites, mobile apps, and other online resources, which must adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. 

Website Content Editors

All web content editors must complete the required Siteimprove training modules and view the department’s accessibility training video before receiving web editing credentials.

Beginning April 1, 2026, this process will apply to all new web editor requests. Request Access to Edit Website

Existing web editors must complete the required training by June 1, 2026 to retain editing permissions. Editors who do not complete the training by that date will have their access revoked. Email webserv@usi.edu to get access to the SiteImprove Learning Hub.

This approach ensures that individuals publishing content on behalf of the University understand their role in maintaining accessibility and content quality standards.

Tools for Content Editors and Creators

WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools

WAVE® is a suite of evaluation tools that helps content authors identify and address accessibility issues in web content. While WAVE detects many WCAG and accessibility errors, it also supports informed human review and decision‑making.

Color Contrast Checker

WebAIM provides a free color contrast tool that allows you to test foreground and background color combinations for sufficient contrast. While Umbraco color selections are already tested and coded to meet accessibility standards, this tool is especially useful when creating content in other platforms such as Word or Canva.
