What does the Career Success Center offer?
We support students with resume reviews, job and internship search strategies, career fairs, interview prep, and employer connections. We also provide resources for part-time jobs, co-ops, and internships, and host career development events throughout the year.

When should students start using the Career Success Center?
Students are encouraged to connect with us early—ideally in their first semester. Whether you're looking for part-time work or just exploring career options, we’re here to support you throughout your time at USI.

Where can students get help choosing a major?
University Division Advising helps students explore majors through career assessments and one-on-one advising. You can also take GENS 111: Career Planning, a one-credit course designed to help you choose a major and plan your career path.

Should students work during college?
Part-time work builds transferable skills like communication, leadership, and time management. Some students thrive balancing work and classes, while others may benefit more from campus involvement during their first year.

Do part-time jobs count as internships?
Sometimes. If the job relates to your field of study and provides professional development, it may count. Internships are typically structured, supervised, and focused on career skills.

What’s the difference between an internship and a co-op?
Internships are short-term (usually one semester), while co-ops are multi-semester, paid positions with the same employer. Both offer real-world experience and help you build your resume.

When should students look for internships or co-ops?
Start early. Some employers recruit 6–9 months in advance. Begin your search as early as your second semester.
