Explore the history of New Harmony's Community of Equality through the archival collections of three local institutions. Jennifer Greene (David L. Rice Library at the University of Southern Indiana), Heidi Taylor-Caudill (Historic New Harmony), and Ryan Rokicki (Working Men's Institute) will highlight documents, manuscripts, and other primary sources that illuminate the community during the years 1825-1827. Together, they will showcase how these complementary collections preserve the story of one of America's most fascinating social experiments.

Lights of Liberty is a patriotic celebration set against the striking backdrop of the Atheneum. This special evening honors both the bicentennial of New Harmony's Community of Equality and the nation's semiquincentennial, blending history, culture and celebration. Guests can enjoy a relaxed summer evening with food trucks and picnic dining on the Atheneum lawn, along with live entertainment from Third Thursday Bluegrass, The Liberty Belles featuring Molly Felder, Liz Mumford and Cecilia Paradise, and the Rodenberg Blue House Band. The evening culminates in a spectacular custom drone light show beginning at 9:05 p.m., illuminating the sky in a modern and memorable tribute to liberty and community.
All Day September 15 · Atheneum (401 North Arthur St., New Harmony, IN)
On Tuesday, September 15, Historic New Harmony and the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art will welcome University of Southern Indiana freshmen to town as part of the university's first-year experience program, USI 101: Soar to Success. Throughout the day, students will explore local landmarks, take part in activities and discover how New Harmony's history can connect to their own educational journeys. Community members are encouraged to help welcome these students and share in this annual tradition.

Join Historic New Harmony at the Working Men's Institute at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 26 for a new installment of the Owen-Maclure 200th Monthly Lecture Series featuring Dr. Clark Kimberling talking about the sons of Robert Owen, who led New Harmony's second utopian experiment with William Maclure from 1825–1827. New Harmony will host the Innovative Communities: Past, Present, and Future Conference from November–15 at the New Harmony Inn and Conference Center. Held in conjunction with the Owen-Maclure 200th bicentennial, the conference will explore how communities are formed, how they evolve and what lessons can be drawn from New Harmony's historic Community of Equality. Community members are encouraged to participate; registration will be free for New Harmony residents.
