EXPLORE LIKE A NATURALIST

A Guided Slow Looking Walk

As part of the Firefly Festival, we invite you to slow down and see the world in a different way.

Join Indiana Master Naturalist Savannah Hoskinson on Saturday, June 27 at 10 a.m. for a guided walk that introduces the practice of "slow looking"—a simple but powerful way of paying closer attention to the natural world. Rather than rushing from place to place, slow looking asks us to pause, observe, and notice the small details we often miss: the texture of bark, the movement of insects, the shifting patterns of light and shadow.

Inspired by the traditions of early naturalists, this walk encourages curiosity, patience, and a sense of wonder. You don't need any special knowledge or equipment—just a willingness to take your time and look closely. Along the way, Savannah will offer prompts and insights to help you deepen your attention and reframe how you experience the landscape around you.

This family-friendly program is free and open to all, making it a perfect daytime complement to the evening magic of firefly viewing. Space is limited to 25 participants (first come, first served).

Meet at the Atheneum Visitor Center and discover how slowing down can help you see more.
