The Efroymson Bridge Year Fellowship Exhibition: Paintings of Jamie Gray Williams
May 11 - June 30, 2013

The McCutchan Art Center/Pace Galleries is pleased to announce an exhibition of the paintings of Jamie Gray Williams, the 2012-2013 Efroymson Bridge Year Fellow in the Department of Art. The exhibit will open on Saturday May 11 with a free public reception for the artist from 5 - 7 p.m. Her exhibition will continue until June 30, 2013. Summer hours at the McCutchan Art Center/Pace Galleries are 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday - Friday and Sunday 1-5 p.m.

The Efroymson Bridge Year Fellowship is a competitive award program that provided Ms. Williams, a highly motivated and talented December 2012 graduate of the University of Southern Indiana’s Department of Art an additional post-undergraduate year to greatly develop her artistic vision and to gain maturity as an artist. The paintings in this exhibition are the result of her creative research.

Ms. Williams say of her recent paintings, "My current work focuses on the representation of the human as a mere physical entity and upon the loss of individuality in our highly sexualized patriarchal Western culture. These depictions tend to rob their subjects of personality and humanness. Similar to how they are presented in media and visual culture, the figures appear as vacant and hollowed bodies to be observed and casually consumed by others."

The University of Southern Indiana and the Department of Art are most grateful to the Efroymson Family Fund of the Central Indiana Community Foundation for their generous sponsorship of The Efroymson Bridge Year Fellowship.
