Built: circa 1819-1822
Original Use: Harmonist family residence
Architecture: Brick construction, typical of later Harmonist domestic architecture
The Salomon Wolf House is not on its original site. An identical Harmonist brick house, the Eigner House, once stood here. The Wolf House was built on the north side of South Street, between Main and Brewery Street, and was moved by Historic New Harmony, Inc. to its current location at 601 Granary Street in 1975.
Salomon Wolf (born 1770) came to America from Germany in 1805 and was a member of the Harmonie Society for 36 years. By 1822, Wolf was living in the house with his two surviving children. He was a shepherd and his house was located next to the sheep barns.
Access: Exterior visible anytime. Interior features a diorama model of New Harmony and is accessible during guided tours and special educational programs.
