Nursing Instructor Christina Buxton earned her BSN at the University of Michigan School of Nursing and her MSN in public health/community health/home health care at the University of Michigan. At this time, she also earned a certificate in nursing education. She is a board-certified nurse in nursing professional development. Christina grew up in Crystal Falls, Michigan (in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan). She spent 10 years in Ann Arbor, Michigan where she met her husband, Ryan. She worked at Michigan Medicine (Formerly known as the University of Michigan Health System). In 2015, they moved to Indiana where she continued her career at Indiana University Health in Bloomington, IN. In August 2019, Christina began working as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Indiana University Purdue University Columbus.  In January 2023, Christina continued her career in academia at the University of Southern Indiana (USI). Christina is a member of Sigma Theta Tau (Honor Society of Nursing). She has practiced nursing and nursing professional development on a medical-surgical unit, orthopedic/trauma unit, and inpatient psychiatric unit.

Christina teaches the sophomore, junior, and senior level nursing students.  She has also taught nursing courses at the University of Michigan.  Nursing is Christina’s passion, and she encourages her students to take pride in the fact that they get to care for individuals in some of their most memorable and vulnerable life moments. She feels privileged to be a nurse and share her passion with her students. In addition to teaching, Christina enjoys being a mom and spending time with family and friends. Christina has been a certified Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructor since October 2020.  She enjoys instilling compassion and shedding light on the importance of mental health through this course.  She is an active member in the American Red Cross, loves running and cross-country skiing, and enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking and biking with her family.
