Sam is the Interim Director of Public Safety at the University of Southern Indiana.  He has a MS in Criminology, a Bachelors of Social Work and a graduate of the FBI National Academy.  Prior to USI Sam spent 26 years with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office where he retired as a Lt.  During this time he taught verbal de-escalation, tactial communications and was a hostage/crisis negotiator, and implemented the Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) as well as help develop the agency’s peer support team.  Sam is certified by the State of Indiana as a law enforcement Master Instructor.  In 2017 Sam was recognized by the Indiana Suicide Prevention Committee as Law Enforcement Officer of the year.

 

In addition to AMFHA Sam is an ASIST Master Trainer as well as a QPR Master Instructor.
