Student Worker and Graduate Assistant Pay Rates and Levels

As part of our continued efforts to evaluate compensation and strengthen our student workforce, we are pleased to announce updated base pay rates for Student Workers and Graduate Assistants, effective September 27.

This adjustment reflects a collaborative effort between Student Government Association (SGA) and Human Resources to enhance student compensation while remaining mindful of existing budget constraints.

To support this initiative, hourly rates have been increased across student employment levels. Because departmental funding levels remain unchanged, the higher hourly rates will result in a reduction in the total number of student work hours available per department. We understand this may require departments to reassess staffing and scheduling needs, and we are here to assist with that transition.

What’s Changing:

  • Student Worker pay increases to $8.50/hour, with higher-level roles reaching $9.25/hour. To streamline classification and support equity, Levels 4 and 5 have been consolidated into a single level.
  • Graduate Assistant pay increases to $8.75/hour, with top-tier roles earning up to $10.25/hour. No structural changes have been made to graduate assistant levels.
  • Any rates currently paid above the highest level will remain unchanged.
  • Current and new pay rates can be found on the Student Worker and Graduate Assistant Pay Rates and Levels website.

Implementation Timeline:
These changes will take effect on September 27, with the first pay date reflecting the new rates scheduled for October 17. Student workers currently on payroll will be automatically adjusted to the new rate for their level as of the effective date.

To ensure accurate implementation, fiscal managers have received a list of student workers and graduate assistants and are asked to verify which individuals are currently active and which are no longer working for the University. Timely responses will be critical to ensure a smooth transition.

On the afternoon of Friday, September 26, updated Student Employment Notifications will be available via the Human Resources website and on the O drive under Human Resources.

We are grateful to SGA for their thoughtful input and advocacy throughout this process. Their partnership has helped ensure that student voices remain central to compensation decisions.
