The Center for International Programs provide assistance for faculty who want to:
- Lead a short-term program abroad.
- Coordinate or participate in a teaching exchange.
- Establish a partnership with an international institution.
USI Policy Regarding Program Administration
All program directors responsible for University of Southern Indiana student or faculty travel abroad must adhere to the USI policy regarding Study Abroad and Faculty-Led Travel programs. These guidelines have been established to ensure the health and safety of all program participants.
Faculty/Staff-Led Education Abroad Manual 2024
The Center for International Programs:
- Maintains the website for program participants and manages the submission of required documents.
- Provides information and resources to program directors on issues of health and safety abroad.
- Upon request, provides consultation and review of program proposals.
- Upon request, assists with pre-departure orientation and re-entry programs.
- Provides emergency action protocol that enables program directors abroad to contact USI on a 24-hour basis.
- Coordinates on-campus action of the Study Abroad Risk Management Task Force (in cooperation with the Provost and the Associate Provost for Student Affairs) in case of an emergency abroad.

Invitations to visiting international faculty to conduct teaching or research at the University of Southern Indiana must be approved by the department chair and dean of the college. Specific details concerning the visiting faculty member's responsibilities, term of appointment and benefits provided by USI should be determined before a formal invitation is issued. Please consult with the Center for International Programs to determine if the visiting scholar qualifies for a J-1 exchange visitor visa, and what category of the J-1 program will be used. Teaching exchange in Germany
Dr. Daria Sevastianova, associate professor of economics at USI, taught for a semester at one of USI's international partner institutions, Hochschule Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, while the German university's Dr. Johannes Hirata taught in USI's Romain College of Business. "Dr. Hirata's presence at USI has truly strengthened our partnership with the Hochschule, and has contributed to a greater awareness and appreciation of the benefits of international exchange among our faculty, staff and students," said Heidi Gregori-Gahan, assistant provost for International Programs and Services.
