Each semester we track student participation in Romain College events and activities, such as speakers events, being club members or officers, accepting induction into an honor society, even filming a video in our Strategic Social Media Lab about their college experience! We had a participation rate of about 31% in the fall semester, so nearly a third of all business majors and minors attended an event, joined a club, or engaged in a College-sponsored activity this semester.

We are pleased to name the top student participants in the fall 2019 semester:

  1. Alicia Frederick '20, finance
  2. Thomas Busche '21, accounting
  3. Braden Taylor '19, accounting and finance

The students are motivated to be involved in school 'outside of the classroom' because of overall personal and professional growth and the impact it can have on their careers. "I believe it is important to be involved in school activities 'outside the classroom' because, depending on what one gets involved with, it allows you to become exposed to many different things that you would not find in a classroom," said Braden, who graduates in the fall semester and is starting the USI MBA program in January. "It also helps you network with both your peers and professionals which is extremely important. It shows that you go above and beyond just getting your degree and getting out and that you care about the community that you are in. All of these things contribute to a person's overall growth and experience and what better place to get out and explore than college?"

"The classroom is the place to learn some technical skills and build the foundation of your knowledge," noted Thomas. "Being active outside the classroom in clubs such as Beta Alpha Psi and Toastmasters as well as getting involved in your community and volunteering will build upon that foundation and grow you as a person. Not only will this set you apart from other students for future jobs, but it will also help build some of the soft skills that are essential for business professionals."
