Two accounting majors have been selected as PCAOB Scholars and will each receive a Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) scholarship in the amount of $15,000.00.
Brayden Beck
“It is an honor to be selected for this scholarship out of a very talented and prestigious group of nominees. This accomplishment shows that anything can be achieved with determination and hard work,” said Brayden, a senior accounting and finance major. “Also, this proves the University of Southern Indiana and the Romain College of Business offer quality educational opportunities through their faculty and curriculum that can compete with any institution in the nation.”
Brayden has been involved with Beta Alpha Psi, Accounting and Professional Services Club, Institute of Management Accountants, Intramural Sports, and is an Academic Success Center Peer Tutor. He plans to obtain his CPA license after graduating and hopes to work at a taxation firm in Southern Indiana.
“I want to congratulate Brayden on his selection as a PCAOB Scholar which pays full tuition and fees,” stated Dr. Thomas Noland, Chair of Accounting and Finance and Professor of Accounting. “Brayden is an outstanding student who works as a peer advisor on campus and has completed internships with two different companies. Brayden will be a tremendous asset to the accounting profession.”
Lucas Kuhn
“Receiving the PCAOB Scholarship means so much to me because it allows me to finally appreciate the work I have put in inside and outside of the classroom. I consistently put full effort into everything I do, and being recognized with such a generous award shows me that it was all worth it,” said Lucas, a senior accounting major. “To say I am thankful for every one of my professors is an understatement, as they have each prepared me for life after college. I am honored to have been nominated for this scholarship by Dr. Noland. I appreciate the Romain College of Business for assisting me in my academic journey. I would not be where I am today without the guidance and support of the entire RCOB staff.”
Lucas’ involvement at USI includes Emerging Leaders, Intramurals, Peer Advising in the Center for Exploring Majors, Criminal Justice Student Association and Business Professionals of America.
His future career goal to work with a professional sports team shows the versatility of an accounting degree. This spring he completed an internship with DOZ (Dauby O'Connor & Zaleski, LLC). “At the conclusion of the experience, I accepted a full-time position. I will start my professional career as an audit associate, and I look forward to working alongside such a welcoming group of people. My career goals after graduating include obtaining my CPA license after working two years for DOZ, earning a couple of promotions to reach Manager status, and then after at least five years in public accounting, I would like to seek an accounting/management position with a professional sports team to combine my interest in business and numbers with my passion for sports.”
“I want to congratulate Lucas on his selection as a PCAOB Scholar which pays full tuition and fees,” stated Dr. Thomas Noland, Chair of Accounting and Finance and Professor of Accounting. “Lucas is involved in several campus organizations and has completed an audit internship. He has already accepted a position with DOZ as an Audit Associate upon graduation.”
