Senior Jailine McElroy and Dr. Daria Sevastianova, Associate Professor of Economics, were presenters at the annual Women in Economics Virtual Symposium 2022. They led a breakout session titled, "Leading the Way by Starting a Women in Economics Club at Your University.” Sevastianova explained, "The session was dedicated to the topic of disproportionate impact of the pandemic on women and how we can lead and inspire a new generation of economists in challenging times."
"It’s an honor to contribute to this program every year, and I was happy to share the podium screen with Jailine, who is our Economics Club president," said Sevastianova. McElroy noted that “as a transfer student, I realized the importance of getting involved in student life on campus, talking to fellow classmates and professors. The club provided a great leadership opportunity, and I enjoy working on club programs and collaborating with other clubs.”
The annual symposium began in 2018 at the St. Louis Fed, along with the Women in Economics Podcast Series. This initiative is designed to connect young women with accomplished women in the economics profession who share the story of their career journey—helping inspire women who wonder if economics is a profession they should (and actually could) pursue.
