Art and Design

The Art and Design Program at USI prepares students to become creative and open-minded citizens through degree programs that blend the traditional core of liberal arts and science education with the most current technical art and art history knowledge and skills.

Art and Design

The Art & Design Department at USI offers a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Fine Arts with concentrations in Art History, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interactive Media, Photography, and Studio.

The Visual Art P-12 Teaching major is also available as a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science for students interested in teaching.

Programs

Outcomes:

    • Students exhibit work in the Student Gallery, the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, Senior Seminar Exhibitions, and the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art BG Projects
    • Students acquire experience in curation, collections management, and gallery operations with the University Art Collection and the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art through the James A. Sanders Fellowship
    • They will gain real-world experience through internships with companies and organizations such as Berry Plastics, Tucker Publishing, and local media groups
    • They will network with alumni working in local design businesses and organizations and with Evansville Design Group 
    • Students explore beyond USI through national and international art-related travel opportunities. Elizabeth Zutt Enrichment Scholarships available to full-time Art and Design majors

Evan Kisner '19

Art & Design alum Evan Kisner '19 used his graphic design and illustration skills to earn a place in the Sequential Art masters program at Savannah College of Art and Design.

Livia Alexander '18

Livia was featured in the Spring 2020 issue of illume and was recently displayed in an exhibition at the Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis, Missouri.

Kevin Titzer '97

Titzer has been building sculpture, curating exhibitions, and creating immersive installations for twenty years and counting. Found and recycled materials are often prominent elements in his work.
