We contain multitudes. Under one roof, we house several disciplines in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, but broadly speaking, there are some common themes to all of our degree programs. We take pride in our students and their unique experience in the College of Liberal Arts. See just some of our pride points below:

  • A “relational” scale fosters meaningful relationships
  • Students have a lot of creative room to design their degree credentials
  • We offer many experiential opportunities, which often means “hands-on” or “practice-based.”
  • Our students go on to get jobs in all sectors of the economy
  • Primed to start their own small businesses and create jobs for others
  • We're “the fun college.” We have a lot of creative energy here and a lot of ways to exercise it.

Dr. Kristalyn Shefveland, Associate Professor of History, and area high school senior Sophie Kloppenburg didn't know how much they had in common before they met in the summer of 2021. But through their encounter they discovered both were committed to historic truths and bringing those truths into the light through education.

Political Science student’s D.C. internship with Congressman Mast

Tommy Kautzman — current political science major and public relations minor at USI — may not yet know the trajectory of his future career in politics, but that does not stop him from seizing every opportunity possible to advance his knowledge and experience in his field. This past summer, Kautzman worked as a Digital Communications Intern for the Office of Congressman Brian Mast in Washington, DC.
