Students may use their workplace only if all conditions are met:
Internship duties differ from regular job duties
Internship occurs in a different department
Internship hours are separate from paid work hours
Supervision is provided by someone other than the direct supervisor
Employer provides written confirmation
The feedback on using one’s place of employment as an internship site is mixed. Two of the major disadvantages reported are role confusion and job-related interruptions. The major advantage reported is convenience.
Rare but allowed if approved by the university and aligned with academic requirements.
Students should contact the Internship Program Instructor immediately if:
Assigned duties fall outside agreed learning objectives
They feel pressured to compromise personal or professional values
Any harassment or discrimination occurs
Site expectations conflict with program policies
