Totes for Hope
When the USI Radiologic and Imaging Sciences Class of 2025 was approached by their advisor, Ryan Williams, and American Red Cross Board Member, Dr. Joy Cook, with a service opportunity, they didn’t hesitate to contribute. They donated 500 cutlery packets, 400 towelettes and 34 mini flashlights for Totes of Hope, a donation drive with the American Red Cross in which personal care items are collected, assembled in tote bags and distributed with a personal note of thanks or encouragement to veterans. Thank you, USI students, for fulfilling two line items needed for the assembly of the totes.

Class of 2025 Accomplishments
Each year, the Kinney College of Nursing and Health Professions seeks nominations for the University of Southern Indiana’s Trustees Distinguished Merit Award and the Bill Sands Communications Studies Award. These two university-wide awards offer monetary academic funding for recipients. Each college can only nominate one student for each award. This year, our program nominated a student for each award from the Class of 2025: Savannah Hoffman for the Trustees award and Shelby Livingston for the Bill Sands award. Both Shelby and Savannah moved forward as the Kinney College’s nominees for these awards at the University level, and Shelby was eventually selected to receive the Bill Sands Communications Scholarship.
While Savannah did not receive the Trustees award, she was named as the student representative for the Kinney College of Nursing and Health Professions on the University Student Affairs Committee and chosen as the reflection speaker for the Spring 2025 Kinney College Commencement.
Congratulations to both of these students on these noteworthy accomplishments!

2022 ISRT Quiz Bowl Champs
The Radiologic and Imaging Sciences program had two student representatives, Hortensia Almanza '23, at left, and Eva Chung Loo '23, at the state meeting of the Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists on September 30, 2022, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The students took advantage of the opportunity and registered at the last minute to compete in the state quiz bowl. Their team of two took home third place for the state!
ASRT Student Leadership Development Program
Megan Webster ’21, Radiologic and Imaging Sciences, was selected as one of only two students in the state of Indiana to participate in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Student Leadership Development Program (SLDP).
Approximately 90-100 students from across the United States will participate in this program, which offers students the opportunity to attend the 2020 ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, June 24-28.
“I feel very fortunate to be chosen as one of the Indiana students,” she said. “I didn’t think I’d get the opportunity when I applied, so I’m very appreciative and excited for the conference in June! I attended the ISRT (Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists) conference in October last year and really enjoyed it!”
Students selected for this program receive airfare, housing and a stipend for meals and travel expenses, plus they are afforded an insider’s look into the world’s largest association for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals with opportunities for networking, education and professional growth.
Webster, of Newburgh, Indiana, is a member of Lambda Nu Theta Chi, USI’s chapter of the national society for radiology students, and she works 20 hours a week at Deaconess Hospital. When she was working on her first degree from USI (double majoring in anthropology and Spanish studies, graduating in 2016) she was an AMIGO orientation leader on campus.
After graduation, she plans to work as an MRI tech, but said she is also open to working in a few different modalities during her career.
