USI Degrees: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (2008) and Doctor of Nursing Practice Leadership/Advanced Practice (2013)

Where are you from originally? I am from Liberty, Kentucky.

Who or what inspired you to pursue nursing as a career? My mother introduced me to global health perspectives by taking me to church missionary meetings, where I learned about diverse cultures, countries and their healthcare systems. I grew up believing (and still do) that one person can make a difference.

Where did you receive your BSN degree and what year? Murray State University, 2005

Who or what inspired you to return to school for a NP degree? Autonomy in practice and reaching for a higher level of nursing expertise and education.

Why would you recommend USI’s NP program to others considering this degree? While nurse practitioner degrees are widely available online, a graduate from the University of Southern Indiana stands apart. USI prepares nurses not only to lead in clinical practice but also to critically analyze current landscapes and anticipate future trends in healthcare.

Anything else you would like to add? Two key decisions shaped my career: earning certification in my nursing specialty and choosing the right institution for my education. These choices prepared me to thrive in esteemed organizations like Mayo Clinic.
