The College Tour: See USI in a Whole New Way

Experience college and campus life at the University of Southern Indiana through stories shared by real students. The College Tour is a one-of-a-kind TV series streaming on multiple platforms, including Amazon Prime Video and Roku, showcasing colleges and universities across the country.

Our episode of The College Tour highlights a Respiratory Therapy Degree Completion student and her experience with USI Online Learning. Juggling family, work and educational commitments isn’t an easy task. But for Tori of Fort Wayne, Indiana, the support and commitment USI has for its students, both online and in person, made returning as an adult learner to pursue a degree in respiratory therapy worth the work.

Local Workforce Bolstered by USI Nursing Grads

According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the United States is projected to experience a shortage of registered nurses (RNs), mainly due to the increasing healthcare needs of aging Baby Boomers.

The good news for southwestern Indiana is that the majority of USI Nursing graduates are staying local. Dr. Jennifer Evans, Interim Assistant Dean for Nursing at USI, reports that 92% of the December 2022 graduating cohort are currently employed in Evansville or the surrounding area.

Last year, USI opened a second application period in the fall for the BSN program to meet the high demand for more registered nurses to enter the healthcare workforce. The deadline to apply for the Fall 2023 semester is April 1, 2023. Learn more about USI undergraduate nursing.

Nursing Students Receive White Coats

On January 29, USI Nursing students who started the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program during the Fall 2022 semester received their white coats during a ceremony at the USI Performance Center. Since 2015, the College has held a “White Coat Ceremony” for nursing students prior to the start of their clinical rotations. The ceremony recognizes this important step in their nursing education and emphasizes a professional nursing culture of respect, dignity and compassion for all patients.
